Babalwa has been working in the film and TV industry for 12 years and is an extremely experienced designer. She has worked on nearly 70 productions consisting of 27 TV series, 21 films and over 20 Commercials. She has been a Makeup and Hair designer on 35 productions. Babalwa has been nominated 11 times for local and international awards, and has won 5. Her most notable and prestigious awards to date include, ‘Best Makeup and Hair Designer’ at the SAFTAs in 2018 and 2019 for ‘Lockdown’, seasons, 1 and 2, and ‘Best Makeup and Hair Designer’ for the feature boxing film, ‘Knuckle City’.
Babalwa has been a makeup artist to international stars such as Viola Davis, John Boyega, Orlando Jones, David Harewood, Taylor Russell, Ed Stoppard, Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Christina Milian and Forest Whitaker to name a few. She has also worked with many of the top actors in South Africa, and this has been her pride and joy. Babalwa has worked with companies such as HBO, Universal Studios, 20th Century Fox, BBC, Hulu, Harpo, CBS as well as BET and designed Makeup and Hair for Amazon, HBO, BBC, Netflix USA, Netflix South Africa and Sony Pictures.
Babalwa is intensely passionate about hair and makeup and is driven by her passion for storytelling. She takes a lot of pride in giving everything that she can to make the best contribution possible towards achieving the overall vision of every project she works on. Babalwa is highly skilled in all areas of the Makeup and Hair department including beauty makeup, hairstyling, wigs, Afro hair, SFX makeup and the manufacturing and application of prosthetics.
